The Different Educational
Systems between
Taiwan and South Korea
Taiwan and South Korea
There is no doubt that education plays a crucial role
not only in the life of person but also in government’s policies. Although education
is important to both human and government, there are still some differences and
similarities between countries, such as Taiwan and South Korea. The first similarity
of all is that people, who live in Taiwan, must take nine-year compulsory
education, and people also need to take it in South Korea. Another similarity
is that how long it takes in different levels of education. In Taiwan and South
Korea, people both go to elementary school for six years; senior high school
for three years; high school for three years; and university for four years. The
last similarity is that Taiwanese students should go to school five days a week,
just as students of South Korea do. Even though the educational systems in
Taiwan and South Korea are so similar, there are still two differences. First, Taiwanese
students should take nine hours a day in elementary school; in contrast, the
students of South Korea only need to take eight hours a day in elementary
school. Second, in Taiwan, students usually have the winter vacations between January
and February, and have the summer vacations between August and September. On
the other hand, students in South Korea often have the winter vacations between
December and February, and have the summer vacations between July and August. We
can, therefore, make clear form the above discussion that education can be both
similar and different between Taiwan and South Korea.
